Anime A to Z: P – Plastic Neesan

If Ore Twintail ni Narimasu was a wild ride, then Plastic Nee-san is… also a wild ride.
A wilder ride, even.

Despite only being a single episode, or 12 two-minute episodes, it’s quite the anime!
I actually recognized a few scenes thanks to some anime gifs floating around the internet.

That’s how you know that this anime has something special going for it!

Anime A to Z: O – Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu.

Ore Twintail ni Narimasu, what’s that about Yomu? I’ve never heard of it.

Oh, it’s only the twintail manifesto in anime form!! Anyone who knows anything about twintails should have seen this anime at least twice. And all TRUE anime fans appreciate a good pair of twintails on a woman..

You really haven’t heard of it?
Well, neither had I until a few weeks ago.

Ore Twintail ni Narimasu is one of those anime where you know exactly what you are getting yourself into after reading the synopsis. And then you quickly realize that you still weren’t prepared for what was to come after beginning the first episode.

Anime A to Z: N – No Game No Life: Zero

We are officially past the halfway point for the Anime A to Z challenge!
Time sure flies huh.

For anime N I decided to finally watch an anime movie during the challenge: No Game No Life: Zero. You know, I remember when the movie was first announced, and for some reason I thought it was a recap movie so I never paid it any attention. I actually believed that all the way until last week when I was looking for what to watch for anime N, when I took a glimpse at the synopsis and realized that it was actually a prequel all along.

And what a prequel it was!
No Game No Life: Zero Spoilers Ahead!

Anime A to Z: M – Mahou Senshi Louie

Otherwise known as Rune Soldier Louie.
The romaji title helped me out again here I guess. Or did it?

When I was searching for an M anime I came across this one. Sometimes I like to look for anime with a very average 7ish rating, because there have been many occasions where I’ve actually found some very underrated anime this way. Hidden gems, as I like to call them.

Mahou Senshi Louie ticked the boxes required to pique my interest:

  • Fantasy
  • 7ish rating
  • .. and that’s about it!

The fact that it aired in 2001 is neither here nor there, but I will admit a part of me was looking forward to watching another older anime. Switching up the animation / art style can be refreshing at times, and I’ve noticed that older anime tend to use different (“classic”) tropes and jokes.

I’ll try my best to enlighten you all about Mahou Senshi Louie in this post.
I imagine I’m not the only one who had never heard of this anime before!

Anime A to Z: L – Love Live! School Idol Project (S1 + S2)

Another letter down, and another anime I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did!
I’m convinced that I need to challenge what I “think” I enjoy more often.

The anime this time around was Love Live! School Idol Project, both seasons. A while back I made the decision to include an idol anime in the A to Z challenge, because it’s a genre that I never had any interest in – typically high school girl anime and the humor that comes along with it isn’t my cup of tea. Or so I thought.

Hard to say for sure whether Love Live! was an exception or if I need to try out another high school girl anime at some point in the future.

Anyways, let’s talk Love Live! School Idol Project.
Not to be confused with the other Love Live!, Love Live! Sunshine!! which I may have to give a watch at some point in the future!

Love Live! School Idol Project spoilers ahead!

Anime A to Z: K – Kujibiki Unbalance Anime (pt. 2)

With the Kujibiki Unbalance OVA out of the way (pt. 1 here), it’s time to take a look at the anime.

Now I originally had expected the anime to fill in even more gaps. The OVA filled in some gaps that were left in Genshiken, by showing us three episodes that we saw clips from in Genshiken. So I figured the anime would take this a step further and show us what the full season of Kujibiki Unbalance would look like.

This didn’t happen though!
The Kujibiki Unbalance anime is instead a reboot!

Why reboot a three episode OVA that was incomplete to begin with?
It’s hard to say for sure, but let’s look at what changed here and I’ll try to mention why I think the changes were made.

Anime A to Z: K – Kujibiki Unbalance OVA (pt. 1)

Anime K (pt. 1) was quite the treat!

First off, as a disclaimer – my opinions of Kujibiki Unbalance OVA are absolutely influenced by the fact that I watched Genshiken. A quick summary here is that Kujibiki Unbalance, which I will also refer to as Kujiun henceforth, is actually a fictional anime that airs within the Genshiken universe. So while I had not seen Kujiun, I already was aware of several characters from Kujiun.

The OVA of Kujiun is only three episodes – the three episodes that we see clips of in Genshiken. Despite having seen bits and pieces, it turns out I was wrong as to the type of anime Kujiun would be…

Student Council President Ritsuko. Kujiun’s figurehead character.

Anime A to Z: J – Jormungand & Jormungand: Perfect Order.

So we’ve made it to J, and here is something that I’ve realized so far thanks to this A to Z challenge: there are so many amazing anime out there that I had never heard of! I never started following seasonal anime until around.. Spring 2017? Before that I just found anime from anytime through MAL tags, recommendations, etc.

There is just an entire world of anime out there, and I haven’t heard or seen so much of it. I’m starting to think that focusing on seasonal anime too much has hindered my ability to find these other great anime out there. Who would have thought that just looking for anime alphabetically would turn out so well?

The anime this time is Jormungand & Jormungand: Perfect Order.

You may have guessed that I enjoyed this anime, thanks to this introduction. I’m not very good at holding my opinions until later on in the review am I? I guess the other question here is: why wait? Not that I have an answer to that question.

No major spoilers for this post!

Anime A to Z: I – Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu (Review)

Otherwise known as How Not To Summon A Demon Lord.

Anime titles these days seem to be getting more long form and straightforward.
Or maybe I’ve just paid more attention to them recently!

I was surprised to see that MAL uses the romaji title and didn’t expect to see this one for the letter I. Honestly, you could trim the title all the way down to “Isekai” and I’d be interested. However, being isekai doesn’t automatically make the anime a good one…
