暁Records – VENTEN

Let’s take a look at the latest from Akatsuki Records – VENTEN!

It’s a good one. Real good. If you listen to anything by Stack (the vocalist), let it be this!

First, as always, the original ZUN track. The original song is called Illusory Joururi. You can definitely hear the main melody of VENTEN from there, starting at 1:05 in Illusory Joururi. But it’s pretty clear that aside from that playful melody, the tone of the two songs is very different. VENTEN is much more energetic and playful I think. Of the two, I definitely prefer VENTEN.

Honestly, VENTEN might just be my new favourite song by Akatsuki. Unsurprisingly, I love Stack’s voice, and I just love how playful it is in this one. For the verses she does this cool almost robotic sounding voice, and then she has this powerful buildup to the chorus that just leads to a cuter voice. I also love how much English she mixed in, even if she hardly pronounces any of the words properly haha! I’ve come to expect that from her.

It’s a tossup between the verses and the chorus as to which part I enjoy the most, both are amazing. I think I lean towards the chorus though.

And from the chorus, here’s my ranking for the different parts:

  1. Benben VENTEN La-ta-ta-ta
  2. Benben, Sparkling Strings!
  3. Benben, Invoke a Storm!
  4. Twang the tsukuno, Twang the emotion La-ka-ka-ka

I’ve listened to VENTEN too many times already, it really is an addicting song. And a really fun one. It feels so short when I listen to it, despite being three and a half minutes, on par with most other songs. I guess the energetic pace contributes to that, too.

Anyways, I haven’t rated an Akatsuki song in a while now because they all basically get perfect scores from me, but I’ll do it just because.

I’m giving VENTEN a 12 / 10!

Give it a listen!

Amazing song, and it’s also great to listen to songs like this where Stack is really flexing her vocal muscles because her earlier stuff didn’t have this level of personality!

Even after a hundred listens, the song still gets me.

Until next time,
Thanks for reading!
