Unpopular Anime Opinions Tag

All right, let’s get another tag post crossed off the list.

This one is the Unpopular Opinions Tag, although I feel like my Throwing 8 Overrated Anime Under the Bus post was probably more of an “unpopular opinions” post than this will be.

Let’s give it a whirl though.

Post theme:

Unpopular opinion #1 – sometimes nightcore > the original song.

I suppose I must thank the one who nominated me for this tag. After all, tag posts don’t just appear from thin air. There has to be a source.

And so this post was brought to you in part by Lynn Sheridan, The Otaku Author; the man who travelled the world with naught but a pen and a dream to see his story come to fruition, only to meet his end in the harsh wilderness of Northern Ontario.

The rules are that there are no rules.

7. A Popular Series that I Don’t Like

Neon Genesis Evangelion.

6. A Series Everybody Hates that I Love

It seems a lot of people don’t like Rewrite.
So I’ll go with that.

5. A Love Triangle where the Person Ended up with the Person You Didn’t Like

I would have liked to see Koyomi Araragi end up with Tsubasa Hanekawa instead of Hitagi Senjougahara. As much as I like Hitagi, I just happen to like Tsubasa more.

That said, I don’t really care at the end of the way when it comes to these things.

4. A Popular Genre that You Hardly Watch

I’m going to throw Cute Girls Doing Cute Things out here, because I actively avoid this genre. If I even have an inkling that an anime is CGDCT, I will not watch it. I do not enjoy this genre at all, and it always feels like it was a total waste of time when I do watch it.

3. A Beloved Character You Don’t Like

Saber from the Fate Series.
She’s just so boring and overused I think.

2. A Popular Trope You’re Tired of Seeing

Honestly, I’m tired of watching the underdog win. It seems hard-coded in society for the underdog to always win in some way or another. I’ve been saying this for a long time now on the blog, but I want to see more realism. More tragedy.

Naturally not every story has to be this way, but it just feels so rare for a story to be so unapologetic these days that it really is exciting to come across one that doesn’t hesitate.

1. A Movie or Show Adaptation You Prefer More than the Manga

All of them, I’ve never read a manga.

There you have it.

My unpopular opinions, although they’re probably not all that unpopular.

Unpopular opinion #2: 90% of the time the statement following those two words is actually a popular opinion that people frame as an unpopular opinion in order to look like they are in the minority for those underdog points.

Unpopular opinion #3: this is literally just a repackage of the “am I the only one who…” meme, and no, you’re not the only one.

Anyways, that’s another tag post down. This was the first time I’d done this one, and maybe the last, we’ll see. I don’t think it’s that great of a tag post, the questions aren’t very good. Just my two cents.

And that does it for this one.

Until next time,
Thanks for reading.

  1. CGDCT shows feel like they’re meant to be comedy, but some of them don’t seem to have any jokes. I guess some people find them relaxing to watch.

I also like Hanekawa better up to the point I’ve watched. In any other series I would have thought she’d be the main love interest, but then I’m not into the Senjougahara type of character anyway. Araragi just has his particular taste I guess.

    1. Yeah that’s what does it for me too. I spend every episode wondering if something was supposed to be funny or not, because girls just messing around doesn’t really make me laugh all that much.

Hanekawa just missed the boat. It’s clear she absolutely didn’t expect someone else to just swoop in and take Araragi. And in her defense, he was a loner prior to meeting her.

  2. I agree with the love triangle answer. I really love Tsubasa, though I don’t know if should deal with the stress that Araragi’s womanizing antics would bring to their relationship. 😂

Manga has its pros and cons, same thing with its anime counterpart. There are things manga can convey perfectly that anime cannot and vice versa. The only thing I don’t like are bad filler arcs they would put in anime that are not present in the manga.

It really depends but I’ll give some examples. In To Love Ru Darkness manga, Rito hugged Nana and that scene was an emotional one since the latter was crying her heart out due to being intensely hurt. Its anime counterpart was not able to replicate the same emotional scene, especially the hugging part since it felt quite stale.

The manga version of the Rising of the Shield Hero may not have the same art quality like the one found in the anime, but the former is able to follow the LN accurately so I’d say the manga is the superior version when it comes to conveying closely the story in its presentation.

      2. Aren’t those just examples of situations where the anime didn’t adapt the story in a way you liked though? Anyways, it doesn’t really matter that much to me because I’m not a fan of manga regardless. Was just curious more about the mediums themselves.

  5. I feel the same about your #7 and #4. I agree that unpopular opinions aren’t that unpopular. The manga one surprised me a bit haha. I prefer anime (for the music, colours, and because I prefer watching over reading) but I read the manga to read the rest of the story (if the anime didn’t cover all of it and there are no plans for another season). There’s quite a lot of good manga series that haven’t been adapted into anime yet, which is pretty unfortunate.

    1. I feel like especially now with the internet, it’s pretty hard to have a truly unpopular opinion. There’s always going to be a group of people that feel the same way somewhere.

I tried reading manga once, because I liked that Problem Children anime so much and I wanted to continue the story. But I just couldn’t really get into it and stopped after a few pages. I just gotta have the full package, the colour, sound, voice acting, music, et cetera like you mention.
