暁Records – First Memory / Next Memory

This is it folks, the final song on the Akatsuki Records Youtube channel. After this it’ll probably be only once every few months, depending on how often they release new PVs for songs.

And I’ve saved the best for last.
Or at least, the longest for last.

I’m still not sure where I’d rate this one, but here it is: First Memory / Next Memory, a song that is essentially two songs in one! I believe they are separate songs on the official album, but for their YouTube it seems they decided to string them together.

The original Touhou song for First Memory is called Faith is for the Transient People. I really like this one. Very catchy, and once again the chorus for this is very noticeable in Akatsuki Records’ version. I’d say that the original conveys that more hectic Touhou feel, while First Memory is more somber and warm.

The other original Touhou song, this time for Next Memory, is called The Primal Scene of Japan the Girl Watched. Wow, what a track this one is! Much more powerful, trumpet melody blaring. This might actually be the most powerful and direct sounding Touhou track I’ve heard so far. I actually think that Next Memory, which manages to convey some of this power, has less overall impact than the original.

As this is basically two songs in one, the song was actually divided up accordingly. The vocals of First Memory are by lily-an, and Next Memory by Stack. As I’d expect, Stack took the more powerful song. No surprise there considering how impactful her voice can be. The roles of the two songs were divided up by ACTRock and kaztora, with each doing the melody for one song and the lyrics for the other.

Overall, it seems like this song was a very cool project that manages to string two songs together into one epic song. And an epic story, I’d imagine, although I have trouble keeping up with regular, clearly spoken Japanese let alone lyrics. I’m just going to assume that it’s one epic story that carries across the two songs, which makes the entire song even better in my books.

I’m going to give First Memory / Next Memory a 5 / 5.
Excellently done, a superb song with a satisfying 9 minute length.

A perfect song to throw on and listen to in the background while doing something, like writing this post!

That does it for the weekly Akatsuki posts, aside from one last post that I’ll write for next week. After that, it’s going to be whenever they update their YouTube with a new song / PV. Who knows when that’ll be.

I’m planning on picking up their full albums at some point too, and maybe I’ll review the overall albums at some point in the future. They have short 30 second previews of most of their songs on SoundCloud I believe, so I would still be able to give you all a taste of my favourites from each album.

Until next time,
Thanks for reading!
