We’ve only got two more Akatsuki songs left to look at on their official YouTube page. Who would have guessed that we’d run out so soon?

But then again, who could have guessed that I’d keep these Akatsuki posts going so long?

Today’s song is THE SHOW (Remake).
Just like with ENDLESS FANTASY, this seems to be a shorter version of the actual song, also only clocking in at 2 minutes. The full song is probably longer, at 4-5 minutes like most of their songs.

The original Touhou track for THE SHOW is called Pristine Beat. It’s a very different song from what we normally hear, I think. Aside from the classic trumpet melody, there’s some pretty odd moments in Pristine Beat. The entire track isn’t very energetic, and I don’t find it very catchy either. Most bizarre I’d say are the parts where there is no trumpet, and it’s mostly just drums. What an odd song, compared to so many others that we’ve heard.

And carrying that onwards, I think THE SHOW is also a very odd song. I can definitely hear the similarities, and THE SHOW has more energy… but even then it feels like it’s lacking the usual energy. The part at 14 seconds sounds almost draining. Not saying this is a bad thing, but it’s caught me off guard as I haven’t really listened to this song and it’s got such a different feel from the rest.

The chorus is probably the most standard sounding part of the song. Personally I think the chorus isn’t as impactful as many of the other songs we’ve looked at though. It’s certainly not as impactful as ENDLESS FANTASY, the other 2 minute “remake” on their YouTube.

Yeah, this is a weird one. I feel like the entire song might tell a much better story, as the first verse repeats after the chorus only more intense. I wonder if any other parts of the song get more intense as it goes on also.

Unfortunately this is just the “remake”, which is essentially a teaser for the full song.

I’m going to give THE SHOW “Remake” a 2.5 / 5.
Feels like it doesn’t have enough “oomph” for a 2 minute preview.

Compared to the ENDLESS FANTASY “Remake”, which I’ve listened to probably a hundred times at this point, despite it only being 2 minutes, THE SHOW just feels lacking.

Next week is looking like the last Akatsuki track for a while, as who knows when they’ll post another song on their YouTube after that?
