暁Records – みずいろレインドロップ (Watercolour Raindrop)

It’s 暁Records time.
This time featuring the latest PV on the youtube channel – みずいろレインドロップ, which I’ve interpreted as Watercolour Raindrop.

This PV was just released last week, although the song itself has been out for some time I imagine. While I don’t normally rate the PVs, this one is pretty neat!

The original Touhou song this is based off is Beware the Umbrella Left There Forever. It’s actually a very nice song. This might be one of the rare occasions where the Touhou song feels more relaxed than the Akatsuki Records one.

Speaking of, Watercolour Raindrop is a really cool song. I guess Kogasa, the blue haired girl in the video, uses a sort of living umbrella that can stick its tongue out. And so they took her theme song, which is the Touhou track linked above, and turned the chorus into a tongue twister:

The Japanese:
たたら たらら ぱらら からか さらら たたら
And in English:
tatara tarara parara karaka sarara tatara

To my knowledge those aren’t actual words, just sounds to get tripped up on, although there are portions of the chorus where Stack does sing actual words in the same style. The whole thing seems quite difficult, so kudos to her for managing to get a clean recording of that tongue twister chorus!

The first time I listened to Watercolour Raindrop the song didn’t really sink in, which happens often with Akatsuki Records songs. I often find that it’s the second time listening that I begin to really pick up on the melodies and enjoy what makes them catchy. Like the chorus for this song is a bit odd at first, but after hearing it a few times it becomes quite catchy.

I’ll give Watercolour Raindrop a 4.5 / 5.
It’s a fun song with a catchy chorus!

Until next time,
Thanks for reading / listening!
