While it certainly has been a while since the Umai Yomu Anime Blog last received an award, this is certainly not the first time. As you know, this is a critically acclaimed blog – providing all of the best and correct takes on everything anime. Otherwise known as the best blog ever (although I guess some other blogs come close).
The real surprise here is how this blog hasn’t received MORE awards than it already has. Quite the mystery, don’t you think?
Anyways, enough about me, Yomu, and my outstanding blog, the Umai Yomu Anime Blog, nominated countless times and critically acclaimed best anime blog to have ever graced the internet, winner of so many awards we can hardly keep track. The staff and myself, Yomu, are hard at work trying to keep on top of all of these awards, but sometimes one slips through the cracks for a little while.
Which is exactly why I was unable to respond to this award right away.
My apologies, Keiko.
But luckily, my tardiness meant that the blog had time to scoop up a second award from Jusuchin!
I’m sure I could wait longer, and receive countless more nominations for the Sunshine Blogger Award, but we’ll just have to deal with those future awards as they come. Two is enough for now, I suppose. We’re all swamped here at the Umai Yomu Anime Blog as it is.
I also suppose we can get to the award now. That’s enough about the Umai Yomu Anime Blog and it’s magnificent staff including lead writer Yomu, chief editor Yomu, Second Lieutenant Yomu, and Backup Taste Tester Yomu.

This is a lot of questions to get through, so let’s get to it.
What was the worst anime you’ve watched?
Divine Gate, probably. I have seen it twice, and both times I dropped it at episode 5. So maybe it gets better, but I really doubt it.
What’s your favourite post that you’ve written?
I’ll go with the post that wraps up all of my Rascal Does Not Dream About Bunny Girl Senpai character analyses – The Makinohara Shouko Question.
Is there an anime you’ve wanted to watch but haven’t gotten around to?
There’s always anime that I want to watch but haven’t yet. But if I had to choose one that I don’t currently have plans to watch, but want to watch, I’ll say Isekai Quartet.
Do you follow a strict blogging schedule?
You know I never really considered it strict, but I suppose it is strict in the sense that I try to post at least once per day. And there are certain shows that I try to keep on certain days, like Date A Love on Mondays, Haruhi Tuesdays, Clannad Wednesdays, Ikkitousen Thursdays…
And then there’s the posts I’m writing for Ecchi Hunter too.
So yeah I guess I do follow a strict blogging schedule!
Do you prefer to watch anime as it airs or binge it after it’s finished?
Definitely prefer to binge it. It’s how I’ve watched anime for 99% of my anime watching career. That said, I have been enjoying watching / writing weekly episodes too. But there are just some shows that I’d absolutely prefer to “save up” and binge all in one go, like Danmachi S2 from this season.
If you could keep an animal from anime/tv/book/manga as a pet, who would you choose and why?
I would choose the pipe fox from xxxHoLIC, because it’s cute and snakey.
Are you a cat or dog person?
Dog person, mid to big sized dog preferred. Not a fan of small dogs.
Do you prefer sweet, sour, or spicy food?
I’d choose sweet of the three, but also enjoy spicy food.
What’s an anime/tv/book/manga you can watch/read multiple times without getting bored of it?
Well, definitely not the Endless Eight haha.
If I had to choose I’d say something fantasy related, like Overlord or Akame ga Kill would probably be my go-to for rewatches above other anime.
What do you love most about blogging?
I love being able to put my thoughts into written form. Even if a post doesn’t get a lot of attention, I guess it’s just a nice experience to come up with an idea or form opinions and turn them into something more than just an idea. Turning ideas into something tangible I guess. Because if you think about it, most ideas probably never become anything beyond ideas. It’s nice to do something about that, and I also enjoy seeing all of you other bloggers out there doing the same!
What’s your go-to dessert?
Apple crumble with vanilla ice cream on top.
Not only is it probably the only dessert I can bake (very well, I might add), but it’s also very tasty.
What got you into anime and how old were you?
One of my roommates in university was a big anime fan, and he basically got me into anime, although I had seen Dragonball Z and Pokemon prior. Would have been when I was around 21 years old.
If you watch romantic comedy anime, what is your favourite and why? If not, why don’t you like romcoms?
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. / SNAFU is my favourite romantic comedy anime. I can’t really think of any others, but I guess the genre can be loose at times right? Like SNAFU doesn’t even have that much romance in it, considering the title has “Love Comedy” in it. It’s just a fun anime that has great characters (Yuigahama best girl) and manages to flow very well, making for a great school anime.
What do you do outside of anime? Non-anime related hobbies.
Well, technically I can play the piano, when I’m not slacking from it for months at a time. I also run every couple of days (~4km), and try to at least walk daily (sometimes I do both in the same day) – I enjoy running on hot days too. I also enjoy watching the Toronto Blue Jays (baseball), although I don’t typically sit through a full game because they aren’t the greatest this year. I’m also learning Japanese, slowly. And finally, I’m always up for a new project / venture, like a certain one that someone recently approached me with that shows promise (the hardest part is coming up with an idea, so having something to work on beyond that is amazing!).
In the future I’d ideally also garden (the bigger, the better!) and hobby farm (chickens, donkeys, and maybe sheep), provided I could ever be in a position to do so with a large enough property.
What was the most controversial post you’ve ever written? In terms of either the content or commentary?
Well I try my best to stay away from controversy here on the blog. So I guess the next best thing would be my “hottest take”, which is either my review of that slime anime or my review of Kaguya-san. Normally I try to find the positive in anime, but both of those titles just didn’t do it for me, and I couldn’t help but express that in my reviews with some pretty low ratings.
Cost and restrictions not being an issue, where would you travel for vacation?
If cost is not an issue, and I can gear up with millions of dollars worth of equipment and supplies, as well as mercenary bodyguards and survival experts, then I’d go to Antarctica on vacation. And not to the “tourist zones” that people visit to say they visited Antarctica, even though they never actually went further than a few kilometers in from the coast. I’d want to explore every nook and cranny of the continent, because I still think something is going on there, or something is there… it’s a real suspicious continent, isn’t it? Seems too convenient to just write off an entire continent with “it’s just ice”.
I’m no expert or anything, but I know I’m not the only one who thinks Antarctica is a bit suspicious. Everyone is talking about Area 51, meanwhile what about Antarctica, sneaking under everyone’s radar? So yeah, that’s where I’d go, if cost / restrictions weren’t an issue.
You’ve won the lottery. Spend it all or save it up?
I would only spend enough to afford a nice property away from the city where I could start growing my own food and keep some animals. Assuming I won enough to even afford that in the first place.
What do you think of social media (twitter, facebook, instagram) outside of your blog? Helpful in getting your word out? Or a time sink and potential for trouble?
Outside of my blog, the only social media I use is facebook, and only to keep in touch with a couple people. I think social media is nice, I’d consider interacting with everyone via wordpress a form of social media, and I wouldn’t give that up. But I also think that social media can be very damaging for some people, who end up constantly seeking affirmation via upvotes / likes / et cetera to the point where their real life becomes a separate identity from their social media persona… if that makes sense.
Long story short there are good and bad aspects to social media, it depends how you use it. Moderation is important with social media just like with many other things in life I think.
If you drink alcoholic beverages, what is your preferred poison? If you do not, favourite ice cream flavour?
I don’t drink, so I appreciate the backup question haha.
Favourite flavour is chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.
What sort of music do you listen to when relaxing or doing relaxing activities?
Pretty much the same music that I always listen to, which is mostly Akatsuki Records at the moment.
What video game are you currently playing?
Currently partway through a playthrough of Europa Universalis IV as Malaya. I’ve pretty much taken control of the Malaya / Indonesia area, and am now looking to expand into Australia / New Zealand / Philippines. If I can take all of that, then I’ll begin to expand north into the Siam area. We’ll see how far I can go, I think the year is around 1635 at the moment, and the game goes until 1821. I may even end up pushing into China at the rate I’ve gone so far, but it’ll depend on if Britain shows up at some point to try and get in on the spice & tea action I’ve got going on.
I also have to sit down and keep playing Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. It’s been a while, I just have this bad habit of wanting to play through an entire chapter in one sitting, and then never feel like I have the time for that. Soon though for sure I’ll keep going with it.
I will have to ask as well, but which is more frightening for you? A zombie apocalypse or a vampire apocalypse?
Vampire apocalypse. I feel like a single vampire is more dangerous than tens of thousands of zombies could be, so a full blown apocalypse of vampires seems much more threatening.
And that’s all of the questions!
Thanks again to Keiko and Jusuchin for the awards and questions.
And finally, I’d like to both nominate and thank Rose for her excellent Shinpachi cosplay that she recently shared on twitter:
The resemblance is uncanny.
And of course, if any of you have done this tag before, or aren’t a fan of doing tag posts, or are lazy, or forget about this, or are drowning in awards like myself, that’s OK! You write whatever you want to write, whenever you want to write. You are not obligated to respond to this if you don’t want to.
Here are my questions:
- What’s your favourite card game? (Playing cards or otherwise, although I need some good ideas for card games!)
- How many anime have you watched in total?
- What is your favourite anime genre, and favourite anime from that genre?
- What is your favourite anime OP / ED?
- Do you have any goals for your blog?
- Do you have any exciting / interesting plans for the second half of 2019?
- Do you like cooking? Is there anything in particular that you’re very good at making?
- Favourite leftover food?
- What is your go-to, “I deserve this”, guilty pleasure?
- What is something your country / province / state is known for?
- Do you prefer doughnuts or cookies?
I suppose this post has gone on long enough.
Another day, another award.. am I right?
Thanks everyone who reads this blog and follows my content. And thanks to all you anime bloggers, because it just wouldn’t be as fun without this amazing community!
Until next time,
Thanks for reading.
