暁Records – DOWN DOWN DOLL

It’s Friday, and what better way to end off the week than to feature yet another piece of musical art by the one and only Akatsuki Records?

No translation needed for the song title this time around.

This week’s song is DOWN DOWN DOLL!

The original ZUN / Touhou track for this song is Doll Judgement ~ the Girl Who Played with People’s Shapes. While it’s not as obvious right away, at 1:40 you can hear the main chorus melody loud and clear. The original track is quite nice actually, the chorus in particular is great.

Out of all the Akatsuki Records songs I’ve featured so far, I think that this one actually sounds the most similar to the original track, specifically during the chorus. The chorus of DOWN DOWN DOLL just feels so similar to Doll Judgement ~ the Girl Who Played with People’s Shapes. Similar speed, tone, and of course melody. DOWN DOWN DOLL might be just a tad bit faster, but it’s pretty amazing how close the two choruses are. Normally they aren’t quite this similar.

Now I don’t mean to repeat myself, like I do with every single one of these Akatsuki Records posts, but I’m going to repeat myself. The vocals by Stack are amazing. Honestly, while the production quality of Akatsuki Records songs is perfect across all categories, the vocals always stand out to me as particularly amazing.

I also love the part that begins just at 3:10 in DOWN DOWN DOLL, just a really cool sounding bridge portion of the song. Yeah, I love how the vocals sound there too.

What can I say, I love the vocals.

I’m rating DOWN DOWN DOLL a 4.5 / 5.
Love the energy of this song, but I don’t think it stands out quite as much as some of the other Akatsuki Records songs I’ve covered. That said I still really enjoy this song!

That’s all for this week.

Until next time,
Thanks for reading / listening!
