There have been enough anime reviews posted on the blog this week, so it’s about time to relax a bit and “review” another Akatsuki Records song – Trance Dance Anarcky. Another song, another wild change in style. We’ve seen that Akatsuki Records is capable of quite the variety of songs, from wacky to emotional, and while I haven’t gotten to some others yet, they also have a few mellow songs too.
That said, we’ve come back to wacky this week with Trance Dance Anarcky.
At first I thought this song was called Trance Dance Anarchy but then after watching the PV, I noticed that they spell it “Trance Dance Anarcky”, so that’s the name I’ll go with. Going to have faith that this was intentional, and not that whoever added the english title to the PV didn’t know about the silent h in “anarchy” or mistook it for a k.
Trance Dance Anarcky is inspired by the Touhou track Crazy Backup Dancers. While being a fairly fast paced song, I think the original track is actually more tame than Akatsuki Record’s take on it. Regardless, it’s a Touhou track so it still has that fast pace that suits a bullet hell game like Touhou. I like the original track quite a bit, actually.
Trance Dance Anarcky decided to take the song and add… cheerleaders! The Touhou version is the theme for Satono and Mai, and Akatsuki Records must have decided they would make excellent cheerleaders, so that’s what we get. Out of all the songs I’ve covered so far (which you can see here), this one feels the most similar to the actual Touhou track.
Some parts are different, we get a lot of the whistle sound effect for example, but the overall original track is here almost in its entirety. Which works great for me, because I enjoy the original track, but I wonder what else they could have done to differentiate? It does have a faster feel to it than the Touhou track. While I don’t know her name, I love the vocalist who sings with such wacky vigour, the one who also sang WARNING×WARNING×WARNING. The way she just belts out lyrics, I don’t really know how to describe it but I love it.
Overall, I think this song is great, but not quite the caliber of the other three I’ve reviewed so far. I’m going to give Trance Dance Anarcky a 3.5 / 5.
I enjoyed the song, but I partly feel that it maybe didn’t do enough to differentiate from the original Touhou track, which part of me enjoys more than this Akatsuki Records take. Maybe it just wasn’t crazy enough? Love the vocals, but I just felt this one didn’t live up to the standards set by some of the other Akatsuki Records songs I’ve heard so far.
That’s it for this quick review of トランスダンスアナーキー (Trance Dance Anarcky).
Let me know your thoughts on the song!
Until next time,
Thanks for reading.
