You read that right folks, I’ve found it.
A sports anime that I actually managed to get through.
Finally I understand what the hype is all about around sports anime. This particular anime inspired me, it motivated me, and I firmly believe that I am a better person now as a result. If only there were more sports anime like this one, I’d love the genre!
We need more anime to break the mold like this one.
Oh, you want to know what anime I’m referring to?
The anime is..
Issho ni Training: Training with Hinako.
It’s a shame that the episode only got a single episode.
More content like this would definitely only serve to benefit society as a whole.
I know this may not seem like a sports anime, but it’s tagged as such on MAL so just bear with me on this one.
Training with Hinako is exactly what you think it is, it’s a “workout” OVA where the lovely Hinako guides the viewer through pushups, situps, and squats – just missing the part that involves running 10km. Regardless, it’s best to start with the basics. It may be simple, but Hinako’s workout plan is a good & easy way to start getting fit. Better than nothing at least.
As you can see, Himako has great pushup form (I’m no fitness expert, so I don’t actually know if this is true or not, but I’ll assume this is great form). Make sure you clear enough space on the floor to do the pushups, and stay hydrated. Hinako must have been in a rush because she didn’t even get dressed before jumping into it for this set.
Just in case you are still unsure about proper pushup form, here’s another angle:
As for the workout itself, it isn’t explicitly stated in the anime… it just jumps from set to set without mentioning how much time to allocate between sets. I’m guessing it’s one day between each, but the only reason for this is because Hinako’s outfit changes between sets, which makes me think a day has passed. It could be that you do three sets in one day, then the next three sets the next day, as the quantity of pushups Hinako does changes per set.
Realistically I’m thinking just do them when you can. Jokes aside, I do pushups daily and don’t follow any routine at all. I just drop and do them several times a day – no regimented sets or anything like this. The only goal is to keep the arms / chest working on a regular basis. I’m no expert though, and a regimented approach is probably more recommended.
Great form once again, as you can see. Hands up behind the head, and legs bent at an angle. Just like the pushups, Hinako does a lot of situps, but the anime doesn’t state how frequently to actually do the sets shown in the episode. Just do your best, I guess.
I don’t even do situps personally, can’t stand them. I probably should start doing them, and if I did, then at least I could give Hinako a little bit of credit. We’ll see though, I hate situps.
Hinako does that style of squats where you bring your arms down while you squat, and them bring them back up above your head as you rise. These ones are generally easier to do than the ones where you keep your arms straight out in front of you. I also like these ones better because you can do a lot more of them as a result, which makes me feel better than I probably am at squats.
Out of the three workouts, the squats regimen seems the easiest. Hinako’s sets top out at 24 squats, which is very manageable. Not trying to brag or anything, that’s just how it seems to me. Or maybe I’m just good when it comes to squats. To be fair, Hinako has some extra baggage to deal with which probably makes the ordeal more difficult.
There’s actually one more workout.
I’ll try to explain this one first because while I wrote Toe Raise, I’m not 100% sure that’s what it’s actually called.
It’s that exercise where you stand upright and lift yourself up on your toes in order to work out your calves. I think it’s called a toe raise, but I don’t know for sure. I think there’s another name for it that involves the word “step” or “stair”, where you do it on a step with your heel hanging off the step.
Anyways, Hinako does these too, as you can see:
You never actually get to see her toes during the exercise, but you do get to see her body move up and down as a result of the toe raises, so you know she’s doing them properly.
Hopefully this post inspires you to go and workout your body, at least a little bit. I’m no expert, so I don’t know about the actual regimens used here, but anything is better than nothing (you could probably just look up a workout plan that’s way better), and Hinako is there to give some motivation.
Jokes aside, I stumbled upon this OVA on MAL while looking for an awful anime to write a never seen before review about. Thought it’d be funny to actually write a post about it. Secretly hoping this becomes a hit, because I never really post any ecchi images on my blog haha. Let me have this one time!
Honestly, I don’t think the idea at it’s core is a bad one. Hinako itself is probably not the best example, but there are situations where I could see an anime workout video of some sort being fun to follow along to. Ecchi or not (the ecchi is nice though). The message itself is also a sound one.
And with that, no more excuses folks.
If Hinako can do it, so can you!
Until next time,
Thanks for reading.
