Another day, another work of art by Akatsuki Records.
I knew Touhou’s soundtrack was good, but I am so impressed with how good these Akatsuki Records interpretations are. Transforming classic game soundtrack into beautiful and dynamic songs. It’s really something else.
The song this time is another great example of this!
The song is called 少女救世論, or Girl’s Salvation Theory.
I’d love to be able to read the title in Japanese form, but I haven’t learned enough kanji just yet. I do know 女 though, which means woman.
What’s special about this song is that it’s actually inspired from three different Touhou tracks, all of which are themes for Reimu, who I believe is a reoccurring Touhou encounter. The three tracks are:
You don’t have to listen to them, but it’s neat to hear where Akatsuki Records got their inspiration from for Girl’s Salvation Theory. At the very least I’d recommend listening to the first of the three for a minute, because you can pretty much immediately pick up the resemblance.
Notice how Akatsuki Records managed to take these tracks, and make it feel so… real? Not to bash the original tracks – they’re great. But the retro sound that they have just disappears, and in it’s place is a song that feels full of emotion.
Unlike the last two Akatsuki Records songs I reviewed, this one didn’t take that energetic / wacky direction. You can easily see why it would make sense to go in that high energy direction though – just listen to the original tracks!
I think that is what has impressed me the most about Girl’s Salvation Theory. It’s a transformation of high energy, retro sounding Touhou tracks to something that feels so passionate, so full of feeling. I feel motivated just listening to this song – it actually gave me chills the first time I heard it (still does at times). The originals are background tracks for a bullet hell game. They were designed to be high energy, exciting tracks to accompany the chaos that is Touhou. Which is what makes this change so impressive.
Akatsuki Records really hit it out of the park with Girl’s Salvation Theory.
I just can’t stress enough how impressed I am that they created such a powerful song like this, and they managed to weave THREE Touhou tracks together to do it!
As you have probably guessed by now, Girl’s Salvation Theory gets a 5 / 5.
As far as I’m concerned, this is a masterpiece when you consider it’s roots.
There may be some Akatsuki Records songs that I’m not a fan of, but I haven’t come across one I didn’t like so far!
At this rate I may just have to try out some Touhou games.
If you enjoyed Girl’s Salvation Theory – stay tuned for more Akatsuki Records tracks!
Until next time.
Thanks for reading!
