Anime A to Z: O – Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu.

Ore Twintail ni Narimasu, what’s that about Yomu? I’ve never heard of it.

Oh, it’s only the twintail manifesto in anime form!! Anyone who knows anything about twintails should have seen this anime at least twice. And all TRUE anime fans appreciate a good pair of twintails on a woman..

You really haven’t heard of it?
Well, neither had I until a few weeks ago.

Ore Twintail ni Narimasu is one of those anime where you know exactly what you are getting yourself into after reading the synopsis. And then you quickly realize that you still weren’t prepared for what was to come after beginning the first episode.

My first mistake was going into this anime without an avid passion for twintails. I openly admit that I am a hime cut man. Long or short hair, I like level bangs on female characters. Black hair preferred of course, but not explicitly required. As much as Ore Twintail ni Narimasu may try and sway me, I remain steadfast in this area. That said, I may have come out of this anime with a little more appreciation for the hairstyle that is the twintails.

So what’s this anime all about?

A boy and his passion for twintails. Normally someone like this wouldn’t make it far in society – loving a hairstyle more than life itself isn’t a very productive hobby that opens the door to many opportunities. But through sheer luck he managed to come across a method to utilize his passion for twintails to transform into a little twintailed girl and fight villains – to protect twintails and other various things (mostly fetishes).

You’re probably even more confused now than you were prior to reading that, so I’ll continue on.

The villains (I don’t remember their technical name) are a funny group of monstrous looking dudes with varying animal / insect appearances that survive by consuming human “affinities”. Affinities in this case are basically minor lifestyle choices / physical characteristics – like hairstyle and clothing choices. Some examples include school swimsuits, flat chests, and twintails. They basically all end up being fetishes, even though the concept could technically apply to more than that. So the villains are basically a bunch of perverts who consume affinities (fetishes) to survive. A miserable existence.

This will be your face while watching Ore Twintail ni Narimasu.

In the end, Ore Twintail ni Narimasu is basically a propaganda anime for twintails, as it’s up to our twintailled (is this a word) heroines to save the day.

Pretty unrealistic if you ask me.
Everyone knows that hime cut female characters are statistically more likely to be both shrine priestesses and skilled with a katana – much more qualified to save the world than some childish twintails.

Regardless, Ore Twintail ni Narimasu is a wild ride.
As you may expect, much of the humour is sexual in nature. While ridiculous at times, I did find this anime genuinely funny. The story is awful, the characters are awful, and the action is nothing to write home about. The humour is all it has going for it, so I’m glad that I enjoyed at least one aspect of it.

The villains are what make this anime watchable. Everything about them, from their existence to the way they talk is so stupid that it’s very comical. They assemble these military style briefings, all looking very strong and menacing, to begin discussing the stupidest things imaginable – in a completely serious tone. Lot of funny scenes with these guys. Also, all of their names end with “Guildy” for some reason, which ends up being sort of funny in it’s own way.

I really can’t sum up the anime any better than that.
You’re on your own if you want to attempt watching this one.

I’ll give Ore Twintail ni Narimasu the Questionable Existence award, because many times throughout the anime I questioned why it existed in the first place, and how a group of people managed to dedicate themselves to creating such a thing to completion.
