Yomu’s Done it Again! (Make it Anime Tag)

New year, new tags!
This tag is the Make it Anime Tag, created by Average Joe Reviews.

You may be surprised to read that we do tag posts here on the Umai Yomu Anime Blog.
The thing is, it’s something we do here. We do tag posts.
They don’t call me Master Yomu, Brother Yomu², Yomu the Prognosticator, Yomu the Unique, and the Tag Master for nothing! More titles to come in 2019.

So a thanks goes to Average Joe for this one.
I have a feeling this one will come back to me at some point!

The rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog post.
  • Choose 1 Book, Movie and TV show of your choice that you think could work as an anime. (A series of books or movies is allowed e.g. Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games)
    • If you want to pick more than 1 from each section that’s fine. Or if you can’t think of one for a specific category that’s fine also.
  • Explain why you think your choices could work as an anime. Maybe the advent of animation would enhance it, maybe the different anime genres could help expand and improve the story. Just go crazy with it.
  • Link back to the original post (this post) so I can read people’s suggestions, I’d love to read everyone’s ideas.
  • Include Make it Anime in your tags so everyone including myself can find them all easily.
  • Nominate around 5-10 bloggers.

No problem!
Before we start, this is the song I’ve been listening to recently:

It’s a great song, and I love the clapping in the background too. Honestly, the clapping is the most addictive part of the song. I think I would still enjoy the song without it, but the clapping is just so satisfying that it elevates this song to something worth listening on repeat while I write the entirety of this post.
No blog post this week, so part of me feels obligated to share another song.
Even if only a few of you give it a listen!

1 Book – The Wheel of Time Series

I’ve actually written this one before.
The book series I would love to see in anime form is The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (& finished by Brandon Sanderson).

I know what your thinking: “Yomu, that series is 14 books long! You’re insane!”.
I am insane. They don’t call me Yomu the Insane for nothing!

I’m thinking an anime on the level of One Piece here.
See, you are all stuck in 2019, while I’m already in 2070. A true visionary.

The Wheel of Time has all of the makings for an amazing anime. It starts out small, with a core group of friends in their hometown Two Rivers – a remote town on the outskirts of a powerful country called Andor. Some mysterious strangers arrive searching for the Dragon Reborn. Trouble (evil) follows the strangers and the main characters are forced to leave with them. Their adventure begins, and a very long journey follows.

From there we learn more and more about the world, and the main characters slowly become stronger and discover their own strengths. Sounds a lot like a shounen anime right?

The beauty of this all is that unlike your average shounen, eventually the main characters all split apart due to various reasons, some of which out of their control. But because of their individual strengths and strong personalities, they manage to gather people around them and all become leaders in the world – which allows them to unite the world against the Dark One.

This is a super simplified version of the story. Remember this takes place over 14 books! So much happens in this book series that it would probably put One Piece to shame. Huge battles between kingdoms, politics & intrigue, a very interesting magic system… I never hesitate to point out that I’m a sucker for fantasy – so to see a lengthy, detailed, fleshed out and exciting world in anime form would be a dream come true.
I think The Wheel of Time series would be the best candidate for this.

1 Movie – The Departed

It’s been a while since I’ve watched a movie, but my general go-to if I had to pick a favourite is The Departed.

I feel like it could make for a great anime. I love the dynamic in the movie where we have the mafia infiltrating the police, and the police infiltrating the mafia. Watching Matt Damon’s character versus Leonardo DiCaprio’s character – and seeing how they end up. Lots of great mafia action, deception, & intrigue. Jack Nicholson’s character as the mafia leader is also amazing. The anime would probably sort of feel like 91 Days, only I think that the dynamics would be so much more exciting.

Sort of hard to say anything else about it, if you’ve seen the movie you probably can see what I mean, and if you haven’t then you probably wouldn’t.

1 TV Show – Forged in Fire

It’s been even longer since I’ve watched a non-anime TV show that wasn’t a nature documentary or the news, both of which wouldn’t make for very good anime I think.

I’ll go with…. Forged in Fire.
It’s a competition / reality show centered around forging the best functional & stylish blades of all sorts. I haven’t watched it recently but I used to watch it quite a bit.

I feel like it could make for a good anime that sort of follows the sports anime format. The protagonist is an amateur bladesmith who aspires to be the best, and ends up battling it out with other bladesmiths as he/she slowly becomes more skilled and climbs to the top. Sort of like Shokugeki no Souma, only they forge swords instead of cook meals. There are enough techniques, styles and information to make it just as interesting too. It’s a skill that requires a lot of knowledge and expertise to succeed.

And the judging would be intense as well, because that would be when the blades are put through some sort of testing. In Forged in Fire they usually test blades against things such as sandbags, wood blocks, ice blocks, ropes, etc., but you could get pretty creative with this in an anime format. You could even expand the entire concept to be a competition between teams that consist of one bladesmith and one swordsman/woman. Either way I think it’s got some potential, and has a small chance of doing well in Japan as they have a rich history in bladesmithing.

Let’s get some nominations in here.

Wow, one of these names ended up longer than the rest.
Alfredopasta didn’t you get the memo on short names? Haha.

Anyways, if any of you are interested in making some anime, feel free to give this tag a shot! I know I’ve already picked the best possible book series that could be made into an anime, but try your best anyways. Maybe you’ll come up with a better movie or TV show candidate!

Until next time.
Thanks for reading!

    1. It’s pretty entertaining. The first half of the show gets a bit old after a while though. because most of them end up making the same type of blades.

The second half they have to forge a specific type of historical weapon and the blades they make are pretty impressive.

  2. This definitely looks like an interesting tag, appreciate the nomination!

Also you can refer to me as “Al” if you’d like for a shorter name haha! (most people have referred to me with that nickname so I think I’m just used to it now lol)
