It was only a matter of time right?
The Umai Yomu blog is just a shoe-in for awards like this.
And of course they are always appreciated.
We love our awards here on the Umai Yomu Anime Blog.

So a big thank you to Keiko and Alexie for the nominations!

Keiko’s Questions

1. What genre of anime do you tend to watch more of?

I love fantasy anime, and will pretty much always be willing to watch some fantasy anime. That being said, I’m sure the real answer to this question would just be school anime, if you could consider that a genre. It is right? Pretty sure it is.

2. Talking of genre, is there a genre you tend to avoid or have not yet dipped into?

Sports anime has never really appealed to me. I’m sure it’s great, but something about watching a sport in anime form never really seemed interesting to me. Plus while I haven’t seen many sports anime, I get the feeling that they all sort of do the same things – like “comeback from behind” moments, team drama, etc. Just doesn’t seem too interesting to me.

3. Is there a trait in characters that you despise?

Indecisiveness in protagonists is probably my biggest pet peeve when it comes to traits. Sure some protagonists can make it work, but it seems like too many anime just throw an indecisive guy in the protagonist role who just lets the characters around him make all of the decisions and drag him along. Just not a fan of this type of setup. I just picture that protagonist who lets others drag him around, and then proceeds to complain saying something like “why do these things always happen to me?”. No respect for those guys.

4. What cliché in anime do you enjoy watching?

The turncoat trope. I tend to enjoy antagonists more than protagonists, so when an antagonist from earlier on in an anime turns around and JOINS the protagonist, I’m pretty happy about it usually. Vegeta was always my favourite Dragon Ball Z character, and the trend of enjoying these kinds of characters has just sort of stuck with me.

5. Is there an anime soundtrack that you really enjoy?

I think my favourite soundtrack would probably be Fairy Tail. Even though I’ve never really listened to it much outside of the anime, it’s an amazing soundtrack that does a great job with bringing out emotions and getting me in the correct mood for whatever is happening in the anime.

Monogatari also has an excellent soundtrack though!

6. What anime are you enjoying the most right now from the ones you’re watching?

I only watch one anime at a time, so I guess I’ll just spoil what I’m currently watching for anime M of the A to Z challenge.

Currently watching Mahou Senshi Louie, and enjoying it quite a bit!

7. What is your anime guilty pleasure?

Overpowered main characters. I can’t get enough of them. Guys like Momonga from Overlord or Escanor (during the day) in Nanatsu no Taizai are my favourite. I don’t care if they don’t have any development / growth in terms of power, I just love watching everyone’s reactions to their ridiculous strength compared to those around them. Also, the more smug the better, making Escanor (during the day) one of my favourite characters of all time!

Alexie’s Questions

1. If you could date one (ONE) anime character who would you choose and why?

I’ll go with Yin for this one, my go-to answer for questions like this. As for why, well, she’s cute, and even though she appears emotionless, you can sort of tell what she is feeling inside. Whenever she is with Hei in Darker Than Black, she just seems content / happy, and other times when she is alone she seems lonely. I don’t know, I just like that about Yin. For some reason it felt more satisfying when I “knew” that Yin was feeling content compared to other characters that clearly display their emotions. I guess there is just more than meets the eye with Yin, which makes me like her and continue to use her as my #1 best anime girl.

2. What is your favorite meal?

A piece of breaded fish coated in hot sauce over a bowl of white basmati rice. Started eating a lot of rice while I was attending university cause it’s cheap, and have been eating it fairly often since. I’ll eat rice + hot sauce with any meat, or even just on it’s own, but breaded fish is my favourite meat to have with rice + hot sauce.

3. Where do you most want to travel in the world?

I’ve never really been a fan of traveling. Haven’t had a passport for many years now,  after the last one I had expired. I guess I just never really was a fan of going somewhere and then trying to cram a bunch of sight-seeing into a short period of time – I’m more the all-inclusive resort or cruise type I think, but I’ve never done either of those.

That being said, I’ll go with Japan since that’s the one place I want to go. While I wouldn’t mind doing some sight-seeing, part of me just wants to see what it’s like after watching so much anime. I’ve generated a lot of respect for their culture, or at least the parts of it that I can gather from anime. So my plan was to try and meet some locals online who might be willing to hang out with a Westerner. I don’t know how I’ll do this yet, but it’s an idea that seems like it’d be fun to me cause I’d like to go to Japan to meet and converse with Japanese people. I have to get learning the language though!

4. What is your favorite television show?

I don’t watch many television shows, since I’d generally rather be watching anime. That said, my favourite television show was always Top Gear. So I’d say that’s my favourite show in general. For newly airing shows I’d have to say The Grand Tour.

5. If you could meet one celebrity in your life whom would you want to meet?

There aren’t any celebrities that I can think of that I’d want to meet, sorry!

6. If you could control one element which would you choose?

I’ll go with water, because it’s the most practical I think. Am I able to create it at will? Cause that’d be great. My dream is to buy a large plot of land up north somewhere and start a small farm, so being able to just throw water around would probably be helpful with that.

7. What is the one superpower you’d want to have, excluding elemental control? (because question 6…)

I think controlling time would take the fun out of life, so I’ll choose control over gravity. It seems pretty useful. I could create barriers of extremely high gravity so that nothing can pass through. I could lift anything I wanted by decreasing gravity. Could crush anything as well.

And most importantly, I could train in 100 times Earth’s gravity in order to unlock my innate Saiyan powers!

Thanks Keiko and Alexie for the nominations and questions.
It’s always a lot of fun to answer questions!

I’ll go ahead and nominate:

  • geppetsi – Love the Ooak Art Dolls you’ve been posting lately!
  • Lumi – I loved seeing your figurine collection. Makes me want to start my own soon!
  • jomz – Looking forward to updates on your writing project!

Whether you’d like to respond to this post or not, just know you all have real neat blogs!

I’ve already responded to this tag in the past, so I think 3 nominations is enough this time around!

My questions:

  1. What is your favourite dessert?
  2. What is your favourite game? Can be any type of game.
  3. What made you decide to start blogging?
  4. Has your blog helped you at all with your own life? For example, improved writing ability.
  5. What is one thing you’d like to do at some point in your life?
  6. Learn any interesting facts lately that you could share?
  7. What is your favourite English word to use?

I’m never really good at coming up with questions, but I think I managed to come up with some that I think would yield some interesting answers!

That’s all for this post.

Until next time!
Thanks for reading.

  1. geppetsi

Whoa. Never expected something like this but am happy it happened! Maybe I’ll try but not without struggle, still very much inside my shell in ways (specifically the part where I have to nominate others and ask them questions).

Really nice of you to nominate me and your comment about my dolls, thank you! Stop by any time. And kudos for your hot sauce on rice, I’m a hot sauce nut myself. Crunchy breaded anything with hot sauce too oh boy!

  2. That bread coated fish meal sounds delicious. If I were any better at cooking I would do it myself, but atlas, I am a novice! I could so use that gravity power at my job. Would make lifting like 1 plus grand pounds of meat everyday a lot more bearable. Fairy Tail got some great music in it. Don’t care much for the series, but plenty of the openings, and endings in it I do listen too. Snow Fairy will always be my favorite since I always feel like traveling when listening to it.

    1. You probably would be able to find a new job if you had the power of gravity haha. Could start your own business in construction or mining or something.

I’ve never heard of Snow Fairy, what sort of anime is it?
