Hey everyone, Yomu here.
Unofficial song for this post – This Song. Listened to it the entire time I wrote this.
It seems that Canada’s janky temperature shifts have begun here in Ontario. We went from daily temperatures around 28°C to 12°C overnight, and it will probably jump back to hot again soon. But not being acclimatized yet to the cold, it’s quite the jump. I’m currently in bed writing this. I love the cold but I know that it takes 1-2 weeks of being exposed to it to get used to it. I don’t know how the human body acclimatizes, but it’s a pretty amazing thing if you think about it.
Felt like giving a little update on what’s going on in my life. In June of this year I had moved back to Ontario from British Columbia after living there for 2 years. When I arrived I got a “part-time” job (ended up working 30-40 hrs / week) in order to pay the bills while I worked on expanding my Amazon FBA business. I was also looking at potentially starting some sort of business with drones, and took a course to obtain both knowledge and some basic certification required for this type of thing.
It’s been three months now.
Two weeks ago I made the decision to start looking for a full-time job. I was already working close to full-time hours in a warehouse at my “part-time” job. It seemed like a waste for me to work so much for slightly above minimum wage. Despite my past experiences working for companies, I decided to give it another try. I applied to only two jobs, because I was going to take my time and only apply to jobs that looked good to me. That same day I received phone calls for interviews for both positions.
I’ve had first + second interviews with both companies now, and have accepted one of those two positions that were offered to me. It’s actually much more money than I was even making in British Columbia. Even now I guess I’m still a little in shock about the whole thing. I took an entire year off due to my awful experience at my last job (see this post for this story), and went through a phase of depression and being a complete NEET. Yet here I am a little over a year later, making more than I was then. It feels like a reward I don’t deserve. All I can say is that my skills as a job interviewee are very good, and I think they played a large role in this. I start my new job tomorrow.
I’ll still be working at my part-time job on Sundays, and the occasional evening.
For the Amazon business, it turns out finding a great product to sell on Amazon is more difficult than I thought. My first product ended up being a mixed basket, but I learned a lot from it. I decided to really take my time in researching and finding a second product that I can have more confidence in – but this means taking time to do so. This is another reason I decided to commit to another full-time job.
I’ve made some contacts in regards to the drone business. Contacted a few wineries and looked into various applications for drones. My favourite potential application is using drones to conduct a 360 degree thermal assessment of property (commercial + residential). Net zero homes are becoming very popular, and being able to provide data on heat loss for homes + businesses will likely become a great opportunity in the future. But to get there my potential partners and I decided that the best place to start would be with surveying for farms / wineries, to get experience working with drones in a commercial application. It’s just too late in the season to get started with all of this though, so the drone stuff will have to wait till next Spring.
Other than that, I’ve been listening to WAY too much Japanese music! My youtube has become mostly Japanese at this point. I’m loving it though, finding so many amazing songs.
I started playing the guitar again a few weeks ago, right before I applied to those jobs. Unfortunately I HATE playing piano when I’m cold, so I need to acclimatize before I can play that again. Either that or the weather needs to warm up a bit. Having a little trouble finding time to play either instrument right now.
I’m looking forward to the winter. I plan on becoming one with the cold again, going on many evening walks while only hearing the crunch of my footsteps in the snow, deep in thought. I love the winter.
I don’t think that my new job will affect this blog. I haven’t played many video games at all this summer thanks to this blog. This is mostly what I do for fun now, aside from watching anime. I love writing posts here, I love reading everyone else’s posts, and I will continue to do these things. I don’t post daily anyways, so the schedule itself probably won’t change much. Every couple of days is what I aim for anyways. I’ve got some great ideas in the works!
And that’s all I’ve got here. I think it’s great being able to write things out like this, I feel like this blog has become a vessel for my thoughts in many ways. I’m glad I made the decision to continue blogging in May this year, it’s been great.
Until next time.
Thanks for reading, you’re all the best. 🙂
