A few days ago I was nominated by Plebby for the One Lovely Blog Award. Thanks Plebby! Naturally, as this is the first time I’ve gotten nominated for one of these I have to do it! Plus this gives me something to post while I try to finish up the anime I’m currently watching, so it all works out 🙂
The rules are the following:
1) Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
2) Add the One Lovely Blog Award to your post
3) Share 7 things about yourself
4) Pass this on to as many people as you like (max 15)
5) Include this set of rules
6) Inform your nominees
So let’s get right into it!
1. I don’t drink
I don’t and never have drank alcohol, except for a couple of sips here and there as a formality. I know that I could get used to the taste if I did commit to it, but I just don’t like the effects of alcohol. I guess I could say that I have some reasons as to why, mainly being some influences that I witnessed growing up that turned me off to it. I don’t have a problem with others drinking of course, it’s purely a personal decision I made and that I stick to.
I also don’t drink coffee, because I recognized that many people can’t function without it when I was younger. I sort of also decided that I’m going to live my life without being a slave to coffee like many people close to me who get headaches and whatnot if they don’t get their coffee.
I might as well just go ahead and say what I DO drink, which is 99% of the time just water. Boring right? I have the occasional ginger ale on holidays, but other than that it’s water only for me.
2. I was going for my Accounting Certification (CPA) before my life flipped upside down
I went to university for business administration. In my second year, after a presentation by the Certified Accountants of Ontario, I became convinced that I wanted to go into accounting. I’m pretty good with numbers and computer systems, so I genuinely became interested in this. I graduated with a specialization in accounting, and began the process of obtaining my CPA. But now, my only real desire is to be successfully self-employed, and I can do my own accounting without the designation so the CPA is currently on the back burner.
3. I self taught myself the piano & can’t read music
For many years through high-school I played guitar, and was even in a band for 8 months or so, although all we did was jam out and didn’t actually play any shows. We did create our own songs though, heavily inspired by Rush, Dream Theater, and Our Lady Peace. Our band name was Atlas, which I came up with after reading Atlas Shrugged. After that, I was playing on my own for a long time, and I realized that the piano is a better standalone instrument that can handle both the treble and bass components of songs. Since I’ve never been able to read music, I just learned piano via youtube using Synthesia videos.
While Synthesia piano tabs helped me get interested and learn to play, I’m at the point where I really need to buckle down and learn to read sheet music. Learning via tabs means a huge reliance on muscle memory and memorization, which can only go so far in terms of how many songs I can learn and how much practice I need just to keep songs in my memory. But I can play anime songs on the piano now, so it’s awesome and I’m glad I started playing the piano a few years ago. I may even pick up my guitar again after many years away from it. Something about playing the piano has made me feel like I will be even better at the guitar now than I was in high-school.
4. I’m a big baseball fan
I’ve been a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan for many years now. Since around 2012. I love watching baseball and I love the sport. I know many consider it boring but I really enjoy the slower pace of baseball where I can just sit back and relax while watching a game. Not much else to say about it than that. 2015 and 2016 were exciting years for the Jays, things are looking rough for them right now but we’ll see how the season plays out.
5. I love the winter
I have many reasons as to why I love the winter. Yes, the cold can be irritating at times, and a long winter can be pretty draining. BUT, here are some reasons why the winter is awesome here in Canada.
- No bugs for 4-6 months every year.
- I get to crack open my window at night and sleep in my warm bed with the cool air.
- I love how quiet and solemn it is in the winter – going for a walk and only hearing the crunch of your own footsteps. No bugs, no birds, no leaves blowing in the wind, only the occasional wolves / coyotes howling at night. Nothing quite like going for a walk in the wintertime.
- Winter sports, although I haven’t skied in a few years I do love skiing.
- Going in a hot tub in the winter is awesome.
6. My eyes are a little messed up
I am naturally nearsighted, and wear glasses for distance. But I have an astigmatism in my right eye that messes up my nearsight. Basically without glasses my eyes focus at different distances, so my left eye can focus clearly 4 inches closer than my right eye. This means when I try to read books without glasses I end up closing my right eye because my left eye is better at reading things close to me. But my glasses are for distance, so reading with glasses on means the words are smaller / harder to focus on when they are close to my face, which can give me a headache. I can’t afford legit prescription reading glasses, so I just don’t read books anymore. For some reason reading on the computer is fine though.
7. I love fishing
Pretty simple one, but I love fishing. I usually only get the opportunity to go fishing once every few years. It’s relaxing, it means being on a nice lake with beautiful scenery, and reeling in fish is a lot of fun. Just catch and release fishing though. It’s something I wish I could do more often for sure.
So here are my nominations for the One Lovely Blog Award:
edgyanimeteenblog – It’s too bad this isn’t the Edgy Blog Award haha. EdgyAnimeTeen is a great blogger with an excellent eye for anime (Monogatari). Lots of fun posts on his blog too. We also both write posts for the blog EAT Monogatari, which was created by EdgyAnimeTeen. Check it out!
lovealwaysmiki – lovealwaysmiki is someone who has a lot of excitement for anime, and it really shows. I love the very in depth reviews of anime on this blog. Check out this excellent post on AnoHana!
Thanks for the nomination Plebby.
